New Delhi, Apr 21: On the occasion of 17th National Civil Services Day today, Odisha’s Koraput district has been conferred with Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration.
Koraput Collector & District Magistrate V. Keerthi Vasan received the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Civil Services Day event at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
Addressing the Civil Servants, PM Modi congratulated everyone on the occasion of Civil Services Day and highlighted the significance of this year’s celebration, as it marks the 75th year of the Constitution and the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Recounting Sardar Patel’s iconic statement on April 21, 1947, where he referred to civil servants as the ‘Steel Frame of India’, PM Modi emphasized Patel’s vision of a bureaucracy that upholds discipline, honesty, and democratic values, serving the nation with utmost dedication.
He underscored the relevance of Sardar Patel’s ideals in the context of India’s resolve to become a Viksit Bharat and paid a heartfelt tribute to Sardar Patel’s vision and legacy.
“A civil servant who considers serving the nation as his best duty. Who runs the administration in a democratic way. Who is full of honesty, discipline and dedication. Who works day and night for the goals of the country. Today, when we are moving forward with the resolve to build a developed India, these words of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel become even more relevant. Today, I salute the vision of Sardar Saheb and also pay my emotional tribute to him,” said PM Modi.
It is worth mentioning that National Civil Services Day is observed every year on April 21 to honor the dedication and service of India’s civil servants.
The Prime Minister presents the PM Awards for Excellence in Public Administration on this day.
First celebrated in 2006, the date marks Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 1947 address to civil service probationers, where he called them the “steel frame of India.”
