Tangi, July 15: A youth was arrested with seizure of carcasses of four birds from his possession on Sunday during patrolling by forest personnel near Abhimanpur under Tangi police limits in Khordha district.
The arrested has been identified as Manoj Parida (23) from Ujala. Parida was on a motorcycle near Abhimanpur when officers from the Mukteswar wildlife section intercepted him during regular patrol. During searching, they found three spot-billed ducks and one pheasant-tailed jacana in a bag, said divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Chilika Wildlife Division Amlan Nayak.
Parida has been forwarded to the court. The motorcycle, a mobile phone and the bag containing the bird carcasses were seized while another poacher managed to flee from the spot, he added.
Tissue samples of the dead birds will be sent to a forensic laboratory for toxicological analysis, said the DFO.
Notably, a poacher was arrested with seizure of carcasses of 18 birds from his possession near Bhusandapur in Khurda district last Thursday.
Chilika Wildlife Division has zero-tolerance stance on poaching. Patrolling has been intensified in Chilika lake to combat poaching, added the DFO.
