New Delhi/Cuttack, Jan 17: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday appointed Justice Arindam Sinha as the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Sinha’s appointment will come into effect from January 20. The current Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh is scheduled to retire on January 19, 2025.
“President is pleased to appoint Justice Arindam Sinha, Judge of the Orissa High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 20.01.2025 consequent upon retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court on 19.01.2025,” read the notification issued by the Law Ministry.
It is worth mention that Justice Sinha, born on September 22, 1965, began his career by enrolling as an advocate on March 11, 1991. He spent 22 years practicing mainly before the Calcutta High Court and his expertise lies in Civil, Commercial, Arbitration, and Constitutional law, with a particular focus on Civil law.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge to the Calcutta High Court on October 30, 2013, and later became a permanent Judge on March 14, 2016. He was transferred and took oath as a Judge of Orissa High Court on October 8, 2021.
Currently, Justice Sinha is ranked 42nd in the combined seniority list of High Court Judges across India and stands 7th in seniority from the Calcutta High Court. He is set to retire on September 21, 2027.
