Patna, October 13: The villagers of Sheikhpurdil in Gopalganj, Bihar, are mourning the death of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddiqui, who was shot dead in Mumbai. Despite his long-standing association with the Congress, Siddiqui joined the NCP eight months ago.

The news of his death has shaken the village, where Siddiqui was deeply respected for his philanthropic work. Through his Abdur Rahim Trust, he operated over 40 institutions in his native village, engaging in social welfare activities, including significant aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. Villagers recall him as someone who frequently visited Gopalganj and supported the community in times of need.
Siddiqui's family and relatives have expressed disbelief and sorrow over his untimely death. His nephew questioned the safety of political leaders and the public in Maharashtra, calling for strict action against the culprits.
Siddiqui was shot near Nirmal Nagar, Bandra, and succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital late Saturday night. The Mumbai Crime Branch has identified two suspects, Gurmail Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act. The investigation is ongoing.
