New Delhi, March 3: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed influencer Ranveer Allahbadia to resume airing his podcast series, The Ranveer Show, on the condition that he provides an undertaking to ensure his content adheres to the necessary standards of morality and decency, making it suitable for viewers of all age groups.
The court’s decision was based on the fact that the livelihood of 280 employees depended on the continued broadcast of the show. Allahbadia had filed an application requesting the lifting of a specific part of a previous order, which had restricted him from airing his podcasts.
Additionally, the Supreme Court extended the interim protection from arrest in relation to the FIRs filed against him in Maharashtra and Assam. During the proceedings, Attorney General Tushar Mehta mentioned that some regulations might be needed to prevent the airing of content that contradicts societal moral standards.
The Supreme Court directed the Solicitor General, representing the Centre, to deliberate on potential regulatory measures that would not infringe upon the fundamental right to free speech and expression but would ensure compliance with the boundaries of Article 19(4) of the Constitution.
The court also suggested that any proposed regulatory measures be made available for public comment before any legislative or judicial actions are taken.
