Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: Speculations are rife that Odisha Governor Raghubar Das is returning to active politics after former Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday met him here at the Raj Bhavan as Jharkhand is getting ready for Assembly elections later this year.
The meeting assumes significance as Sarma is also the BJP’s co-election in-charge of the Jharkhand. Das was the chief minister of Jharkhand between 2014 and 2019
Naidu and Sharma’s visit said to be political oriented as Das had earlier held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Delhi visit.
Besides, the Opposition BJD and Congress frequently cornered the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government during the last Assembly session for assault of a Raj Bhavan employee by the Governor’s son.
“Known as a power centre in Jharkhand, Das, was appointed as the Governor of Odisha in 2023 to leave the field clear for incumbent state BJP chief Babulal Marandi. He is known to have taken up the Governor’s post reluctantly. It is being speculated that Das wants to return to the politics of his home state,” said political analyst Chdananda Jena.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also met Sarma and the former vice-president at Raj Bhavan.
"I have come to Odisha for personal work. I had a personal talk with the Governor. It has no link with Jharkhand Assembly polls though I am BJP’s co-election in-charge for the state” the Assam chief minister told media persons.
