Hyderabad, February 23: Soon after the collapse of a tunnel with scores of workmen trapped inside, the Telangana government initiated a rescue operation named ‘Operation Jindegi’ on Saturday.
According to sources, the ‘Operation Jindegi’ yet continues on the tunnel site to rescue at least 8 lives stuck under the mortar debris that caved in all of a sudden yesterday afternoon.
Contingents of TDRAF and NDRF accompanied with fire services wings and civilians are deployed on the spot to complete the rescue operation soon, sources added.
At least 8 workers were reportedly trapped in a tunnel after its wall, under construction accidentally collapsed.
The incident took place at Nagarkurnool district of the state at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project site this afternoon.
According to report, at least 50 workers were busy at working out the tunnel on the project site today when a portion of the tunnel’s roof collapsed all of a sudden.Following the mishap as many as 47 workers had a close shave while 8 of them were covered up by the cement-concrete mortar.
Police, fire services personnel, and officials of the Irrigation Department rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation.
