New Delhi, Feb 23: Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly during a meeting of AAP MLAs on Sunday, party leaders confirmed.
Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai made the announcement at a press briefing following the legislative meeting.
"During today's legislative party meeting, it was unanimously decided that Atishi will serve as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. In challenging times, Atishi has served the people of Delhi as CM, and AAP will now take on the responsibility of providing a constructive opposition," Gopal Rai stated.
Atishi expressed her gratitude to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and the party’s elected MLAs for entrusting her with this responsibility. Speaking at the press conference, she emphasized that AAP would ensure the BJP fulfills its promises to women. She pointed out that a scheme intended to provide Rs 2,500 assistance to women was not approved in the first cabinet meeting under new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
“The people of Delhi have chosen AAP as the opposition. A strong opposition knows how to raise the people’s concerns in the assembly, and AAP will take on that role,” Atishi remarked. “The BJP has made many promises, and based on those commitments, the people gave them their mandate. AAP will ensure those promises are fulfilled.”
