Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: The Odisha government Thursday made a big announcement. Vikrant Massey starred film “The Sabarmati Report”, based on true incident of the Godhra train burning incident, will be made tax-free in the State.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced this in the state assembly.
The Sabarmati Report movie is based on the 2002 talk-of-the-country incident of burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002. In the incident, 59 Karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were charred to death. The burning of Sabartmati Express S-6 coach triggered riots in Gujarat that year.
Odisha became the seventh BJP-ruled state, after Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, to exempt entertainment tax on the Vikrant Massey starred film.
PM MODI, SHAH PRAISED SABARMATI REPORT
The Vikrant Massey-starrer film received attention from fans and critics alike. The movie was come in for praise by none other then rime Minister Narendra Modi who shared a post on Sunday stating that "A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!"
After PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted about ‘The Sabarmati Report’. Praising the movie, Shah wrote, “The film #SabarmatiReport defies the ecosystem with unparalleled courage and exposes the truth behind the fateful episode to broad daylight.”

As per the box office collection report of the film, The Sabarmati Report performed well on its first 12 days minting an estimated Rs 20.40 Cr India net, The film in its first week collected Rs 11.5cr. The film on its second Sunday collected more than its first Sunday. The Dheeraj Sarna helmed movie collected Rs 3.1cr on the second Sunday vis-a-vis 3cr on 1st Sunday, this shows the cinephiles toast to the 12th Fail Star's good action in the film The Sabarmati Report.
