Berhampur, Nov 1: At least two women have died, and six others have fallen ill after reportedly consuming gruel made from mango kernels in Odisha's Kandhamal district, according to police reports.
The incident occurred in Mandipanka village within the Daringbadi block. One woman passed away Thursday night at Mohana Community Health Centre in Gajapati district, where she had been receiving treatment after consuming the gruel, as confirmed by Gadapur sarpanch Kumari Mallick.
Another woman, who also became ill, died Friday morning while being transported to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Six other individuals were hospitalized in critical condition after consuming the same dish.
Dr. Subrat Das, a medical officer at the facility, stated, “All six patients are in serious condition. We suspect food poisoning as the cause of their illness, but the exact reason will be determined following further investigation.”
