The missile test comes shortly after a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 28 people were killed. It is one of the worst attacks in the region since the Pulwama bombing in 2019.
A terror group called The Resistance Front (TRF)—linked to the banned Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—is believed to be behind the attack.
The situation is tense as Pakistan has also issued a maritime warning, saying it will carry out a missile test from its Karachi coast between April 24 and 25.
Indian defence agencies are closely monitoring the situation.
In response to the Pahalgam attack and growing tensions, India has taken strong steps against Pakistan, including:
- Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty
- Shutting down the integrated check post at Attari
- Cancelling SAARC visa exemptions
- Revoking visas already issued to Pakistani nationals
Additionally, Pakistani citizens living in India under a special visa scheme have been asked to leave the country within 48 hours.
These developments highlight India's serious approach to national security and its efforts to respond firmly to cross-border terrorism.
