Cuttack, Feb 21: In a tragic incident, a young woman was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands in Tangi locality of Odisha’s Cuttack.
The deceased woman has been identified as Situ Pradhan (22) and the incident has been reported from Samantarapur village under Tangi police limits in the district last night.
As per reports, Situ was married to one Rajendra Swain of the village in December 2023. Despite receiving Rs 5 lakh at the time of marriage, her in-laws had been demanding for more dowry.
On the day of the incident, moments after speaking to Situ over the phone, her family members were informed that she is dead.
Thereafter, her family filed a complaint with Tangi police alleging that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws. They further alleged that Situ faced continuous physical and mental abuse. Situ was killed as they failed to meet the in-laws’ further dowry demands.
Based on a complaint, Tangi police has detained Situ’s husband, Rajendra, for questioning.
The cops have also seized Situ’s body and sent it to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
