8400 children missing during last four years: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar, February 17: While crime against women is surging high across Odisha, as many as 8400 children have gone missing during the last four years, said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday.

Informing the Odisha Assembly during the Budget Session Majhi said, recent statistics indicates that as many as 8,403 children have gone missing during a 4-year period from which only 1,857 children were rescued yet.

Similarly, at least 36,420 women have gone missing during the last four years i.e from 2020- 2024, informed Odisha CM Mohan Majhi.

Replying to a question by MLA Chakramani Kanhar CM Majhi revealed the database relating to violence against women and children. 

The CM also said that at least 421 women and girls as on records, fell victim to trafficking across state borders whereas only 453 middlemen involved in these illegal activities were nabbed ensuring rescue of 1,417 women and 1,857 children.
