Bhubaneswar, February 17: The Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar on Monday encountered a MP-based robber in the Balianta area in the city.
The gang leader identified as Arjun Anare sustained critical injuries who was admitted to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment.
As many as four members of the gang escaped from the spot leaving a bike and an imported pistol following the encounter.
Police sources said, a notorious gang of apartment robbers was in a bid to shape loot in a flat near the Balianta area.
Police blocked the surrounding area on a tip off. Meanwhile, the robbers opened fire on the police that was responded by the cops. As a result, the gang leader was knelt down on the spot forcing his other aides flee.
Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said, the accused was arrested and shifted to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar from the Capital Hospital.
Further checking-blockings and raids are underway to nab the other robbers who succeeded to flee, Mishra added.
