Khordha, April 11: In a tragic incident, a woman died after being attacked by an elephant in Odisha’s Khordha on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Basanti Routray, wife of Minaketana Routray of Gopinathpur village under Deuli Panchayat in Odisha’s Khordha district. The incident occurred while Basanti had gone to the backyard of her house to collect cashew nuts.
Being informed local police with forest officials reached the spot, seized the body and started investigation into the incident. Forest officials confirmed that Basanti was killed instantly after being trampled by the elephant.
On March 29, a man identified as Dhabal Nayak of Budhakhaman in Deogarh was trampled to death by an elephant. The incident occurred while Dhabak had gone to the nearby forest to collect Mahua flowers in the morning. When he did not return home by noon, his family members got worried and searched for him. During the search, they found his body in the forest.
On March 18, a woman was killed while her husband and children suffered injuries after being attacked by an elephant at Tileipasi village under Kundeigola forest section of Reamal range in the district.
