12-hour bandh demanding Koshal state hits Western Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Call for a separate Koshal statehood re-bounced in Western Odisha today after a 12-hour bandh, observed in almost 12 districts. People across Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh and Bolangir staged dharnas and also hit the streets demanding separate Koshal state soon. Shops, business establishments and even educational institutions remained closed due to the bandh after agitators escalated picketing in front of several offices and government establishments holding banners and supportive placards. Following which, road transport came to a grinding halt in most of the areas and the train services were also affected partially. However, residents of Sambalpur dod not participate in the protest while a section of people in the district came out against the bandh. They alleged that the formation of separate Koshal state will affect the essence Sambalpuri language, culture and literature in many ways.
