Konark Utsav from December 1: Dona Ganguly to perform Odissi, 3 troupes to perform opera

Konark, Nov 19: The five-day Konark festival will begin from December 1 in backdrop of Konark Sun Temple in Puri district of Odisha.
Since 1986, this festival has been organized in the state jointly by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy, Odisha Tourism Department and Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) to promote the diverse Indian dance heritage.
Along with this, during the same period, International Sand Art Festival also takes place. The Sand festival celebrates sand sculptures produced by skilful sand artists.
This year, the dance festival will be celebrated in the open theatre from 6 pm to 8.30 pm every evening from December 1 to 5.
“Odissi, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, Bharatanatyam and Odissi dance by Dona Ganguly will be main attraction of this year,” said Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida attending the preparatoty meeting on Monday.
Similarly, artists from America, Russia, Australia and Sri Lanka will take part in International Sand Art Festival.
Besides, three opera parties will perform plays at the helipad and 500 stalls will be installed at the Mina Bazar.
