New Delhi, Feb 9: After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stormed to power in Delhi by defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), outgoing Chief Minister Atishi is set to resigned from her post at 11 am today.
Atishi, a key strategist for AAP who also managed to retain her Kalkaji seat by defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes, tendered her resignation at Lieutenant Governor Secretariat in the National Capital.
Atishi’s victory in the polls holds a much significance as it was disastrous for the party, with senior leaders including Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal suffering shocking defeats.
It is worth mentioning that the saffron party ended AAP’s decade-long dominance by securing 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly and returning to power in the National Capital after 27 years. While the AAP bagged 22 seats, Congress was unable to secure one seat.
