Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik International Airport is ramping up security measures and cultural preparations as it gets ready to host delegates for the prestigious 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention.
Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan emphasized a dual focus on security and cultural representation. "In light of recent hoax bomb threats on social media, we're implementing comprehensive security protocols," Pradhan stated. The airport is coordinating with state security forces and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to ensure thorough surveillance both inside and outside the terminal buildings.
Beyond security, the airport is transforming into a cultural gateway to Odisha. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is spearheading terminal decorations that showcase the state's rich artistic heritage. Special welcome ceremonies are planned, with cultural troops ready to greet international delegates with traditional tikka and the auspicious sound of Odisha's conch shells.
To ensure smooth transit for delegates, the airport has established dedicated help desks, registration counters, and a special reception lounge following Home Ministry guidelines. Liaison officers have been appointed to assist visitors, while infrastructure improvements focus on seamless connectivity to main city arteries.
"We want to create a perfect blend of security and hospitality," added Pradhan. "Our goal is to make delegates feel both safe and immersed in Odisha's cultural richness from the moment they land."
The enhanced security measures come as airports nationwide have heightened vigilance following recent security alerts. However, Bhubaneswar airport's approach uniquely combines these necessary precautions with cultural celebration, setting the stage for what promises to be a memorable Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention.
