Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has readied 72 transit shelters in with essential services and adequate food stock for evacuation of people from the low-lying areas of the city as IMD predicted Cyclone Dana to hit Odisha on Thursday night.
“We have asked officials to keep the 72 transit shelters ready with essential services and adequate food stock for evacuation of people from the low-lying areas. Dedicated staff will be deployed in these shelters,” said BMC commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil after chairing a preparatory meeting on Monday.
Following the IMD’s forecast of heavy rainfall advance measures are being taken to check waterlogging and urban flooding. A 24X7 control room with helpline number 1929 and 78098 96621 has been made functional, Patil added.
Besides, the BMC has identified 10 temporary shelters for stray animals.
The Watco has also been asked to put measures in place to prevent any disruption in supply of drinking water and the TPCODL has been directed to restore the power supply at the earliest in case of any damage.
