Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: Tension ran high at Raghunathpur area under Nandankanan police limits in the capital city Bhubaneswar after a ‘Mo Bus’ ran over a 13-year-old girl leading to her death on the spot this morning.
The deceased was identified as Muni Juadi.
As per reports, the mishap took place at around 8 AM today when the girl was riding her bicycle and the speeding Mo Bus hit her from behind. Subsequently, it ran over her crushing her to death on the spot. Following the mishap, the bus driver surrendered at the Nandankanan police station.
Angered by the incident, local residents staged a protest by blocking the Nandankanan-Patia road with bamboo, bringing traffic to a standstill. As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.
The agitators demanded strict action against the bus driver, compensation for the deceased's family, and improved road safety measures.
Upon getting the information, the police arrived at the scene and launched a probe into the matter. The cops pacified the agitators and later seized the victim’s body before sending it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
