Bhubaneswar Town Centre Project gets fresh boost with modern multi-modal hub plan

Bhubaneswar, Ap 26: The Bhubaneswar Town Centre (BTC) project is set to witness a major transformation, as the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) prepares a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) aimed at turning the area into a state-of-the-art multi-modal transport hub.

Located strategically at Master Canteen Square, the revamped BTC is envisioned as an integrated hub connecting several key infrastructure projects including the under-construction Bhubaneswar Railway Station and the proposed metro corridor.
 
BDA Vice-Chairman N Thirumala Naik revealed that the new DPR has been formulated with the expertise of Singapore-based consultancy firm Surbana Jurong.
 
The updated design incorporates the city’s growing transportation needs while introducing modern urban infrastructure to support commercial activity and public convenience.
 
Spread over 12 acres, the project will include commercial complexes, a theatre, food courts, an iconic city square, and separate lanes for vehicles to ensure smoother traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
 
The BTC was initially approved in 2016 but encountered several delays over the years. With the change in political leadership and the new BJP-led government's focus on urban development, the long-pending project has regained momentum.
 
 Authorities are optimistic that this renewed effort will position the BTC as a landmark destination in Bhubaneswar, reflecting the city’s aspirations of becoming a smart and connected urban centre.
