Big Breaking: Over 175 Trains Cancelled in Eastern India as Cyclone Dana Approaches

Bhubaneswar: In response to the approaching Cyclone Dana, Eastern Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the cancellation of more than 175 trains scheduled to operate between October 22-29, 2024. The massive preventive measure was announced on Tuesday afternoon through an official bulletin from the Chief Passenger Transportation Manager of ECoR.

The cancellations affect major routes connecting key cities including Howrah, Puri, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, New Delhi, and Vishakhapatnam. Both up and down trains have been affected, with 85 up trains and 93 down trains cancelled as a precautionary measure.

Key routes affected by Cyclone Dana include:

• Howrah-Puri corridor

• New Delhi-Puri services

• Chennai-Howrah routes

• Multiple trains connecting Bhubaneswar to various destinations

• Several important routes along the eastern coast

The railway authorities have requested station officials to ensure wide publicity of these cancellations through various channels including:

• Station notice boards

• Enquiry offices

• Electronic and print media

• Public announcement systems

• Bulk SMS services through ICMS

Most cancellations are scheduled for October 24, 2024, suggesting this might be when Cyclone Dana is expected to have the strongest impact on the region. Some cancellations extend up to October 29, indicating potential prolonged weather disruption in the area.
