Ahmedabad, April 26: In a major crackdown, Gujarat Police, along with the SOG, Crime Branch, AHTU, and local units, detained over 1000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
More than 100 were picked up in Surat during overnight raids, while over 450 were caught early morning in Ahmedabad’s Chandola area, officials said.
Authorities confirmed the detainees had entered India without valid documents and used forged papers.
Following interrogation, they will be deported.
The drive, ordered by top state officials, follows earlier actions that saw the arrest of 127 Bangladeshis since April 2024.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police have also launched a parallel probe into immigration networks, linking fake identity documents to a wider conspiracy.
