Patna, November 4: Bihar's Sultanganj railway station in Bhagalpur district is set to be renamed Ajgaibinath Dham, said Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
The proposal, submitted by the Municipal Council of Ajgaibinath Dham, aims to reflect the religious and cultural significance of the area.
Ajgaibinath Dham is renowned for its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and attracts numerous pilgrims, especially during the Shravani Mela.
The renaming aims to boost the region’s religious tourism and align the station’s identity with the local heritage. The state government is now reviewing the proposal for approval.
This statement highlights the ongoing movement in Bihar to rename railway stations, specifically those with Muslim-associated names, as part of a trend seen in neighboring Uttar Pradesh.
In Bihar, proponents of these name changes argue that renaming will honor the historical and cultural identity of the region, aligning with recent efforts under the NDA government to give stations names that reflect local heritage.
This movement follows prominent changes in Uttar Pradesh, such as the renaming of Mughalsarai Junction to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction and Allahabad to Prayagraj.
