New Delhi, April 26: Following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has on Saturday issued an advisory asking media houses to refrain from live coverage of defence operations and troop movements.

Citing national security concerns, the advisory warned that premature reporting could aid hostile forces and endanger lives.

It also reminded media outlets of Rule 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, which restricts live coverage of anti-terror operations.

The government highlighted the media’s moral and legal responsibility to exercise restraint, noting past incidents like the Kargil War and Mumbai attacks, where unrestricted coverage harmed national interests.

Meanwhile, the government vowed strong action against those behind the Pahalgam attack and announced a series of measures against Pakistan for supporting cross-border terrorism.

The Cabinet Committee on Security condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
