Bhubaneswar: Even as the minimum temperature across Odisha is now hovering in the range of 19 to 15 deg C, with coastal areas keeping a minimum temperature of around 19 deg C and districts like Kalahandi, Kandhamal and parts of Bolangir having a minimum temperature of around 15 deg C, theIMD and NCMRWF model forecast suggest cold wave coming soon.
An analysis of the model data of IMD, NCMRWF and NOAA-GFS reveal that come November 17/18, stronger northwest winds will be gushing into Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand. Due to this weather development, minimum temperature in west and central Odisha, Chhattisgarh, districts in east Madhya Pradesh and south Jharkhand will be dropping to around 12 deg C.
Cold wave will grip most parts of Odisha, Chhhatisgarh, parts of MP and Jharkhand from November 18 onwards.
In Chhattisgarh, the minimum temperature at certain places like Ambikapur will drop to around 10 deg C by Nov 20.
CAPITAL TEMPERATURE
The model forecast by IMD suggests dropping of minimum temperature in State Cpaital Bhubaneswar to around 14 deg C by November 18/19. Rainfall is unlikely. Weather is to remain pleasant. The sky will be getting clear from clouds from November 17 and the cold index will be more felt in the Capital city from Nov 17 onwards. Maximum temperature is predicted to hover around 28-30 deg C till Nov 20. The IMD forecast predicts a 2 deg C drop in minimum temperature in next 96 hours.
A look at the minimum temperature in the Capital city during the last 10 days suggests remaining 1-2 deg higher than normal.
Silver city Cuttack will see a drop in mercury in tandem with State capital Bhubaneswar. The trend of minimum temperature in Cuttack exhibits Capital trend.
DISTRICTS UNDER COLD WAVE SWEEP
The cold wave is predicted to sweep the districts of Samblapur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, parts of Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, where the mercury is predicted to plummet to a low of 12 deg C by Nov 18.
Rest of the districts in the State will record a minimum temperature of around 15 deg C from November 18 onwards.
