Common man with uncommon feat: Mere Odisha farmer Bauribandhu Swain becomes novel thinktank, brighter ray of hope for people

Ganjam, Dec 19: While agriculture is not a reliable source of income nowadays for the farmers, a mere farmer of Odisha, Bauribandhu Swain has elevated himself as an uncommon thinktank and a brighter ray of hope for the agriculture fraternities.

He is now an iconic farmer and an agriculture techie for his innovations, new format of farming with using traditional tools and ancient practices.

Leaving behind high profile job prospects as a banker, Swain has groomed himself as a successful agri-venturer who has clinched many a state wide recognitions for his self-incubated methods of farming.

Swain, a native of Odia Paika Sahi under the Kabisurya Nagar Block limit has emerged as a model farmer across the state, who has kept up ancient practices of utilizing bio-compost and bio-fertilizers in his cropping.

His experiments with the organic way of boosting up plants and crops without using inorganic fertilizers, has brought abundant success and gained multiple productivity. Apart from it, his own formulations of pesticides developed from the neem leaves and fruits, has ruled out the use of hazardous inorganic pesticides from his cultivation.

Using animals’ dung, bio-fertilizers prepared from paddy straws, stubbles and vermin-compost, Swain has been producing tons of paddy, wheat, vegetable, fruits, flowers and mushrooms, proving as a model farmer of the state.

Breaking down the seal of social dogmas relating to the indispensability of inorganic fertilizers, for the metamorphosed soil vitalities, Swain has been digging out the best from the mother earth, as a new gen farmer.

Using the innovative ways of farming, the banker-turned farmer has created a captive grain-bank for conserving the extinct food grains and seeds, for farmers’ assistance, apart from fabulous yields of paddy, flowers and vegetables almost every season.

Swain, as a noted agriculture entrepreneur has bagged a lot of recognitions from government and non-government organizations, for his contribution towards new-era farming. In year 2012-13 he was felicitated in the district level by the Odisha Horticulture society. The Samaj Daily & the Lok Sevak Mandal had awarded him as ‘Ideal Farmer’ whereas the Kabisurya Nagar NAC had adjudged him as the best farmer of the district in 2023-24.

Recently the Prameya & News7 family conferred the ‘Krushak Ratna Award' to Swain, as a token of recognition for his new-school of thoughts, handed down to the new farmer generation.

Expressing gratitude over the recent accomplishment of the 'Krushak Ratna Award', Bauribandhu said that the noble venture of the Prameya & News7 will be more instrumental to encourage the educated youths, to come to the field of agriculture, thinking it more lucrative than jobs and other professions.
