Bhubaneswar, Mar 21: Opposition Congress on Friday created uproar in the Odisha Assembly over the alleged rise in crimes against women in the state by banging bells.
The members of the grand old party staged a protest, wearing black dresses and turbans.
As soon as the house assembled for the day, the members of the Congress created a pandemonium in the House, banging bells and shouting slogans. They alleged that the state government was not taking adequate measures to prevent crimes against women.
As the pandemonium prevailed, Speaker Surama Padhy, unable to run the house, adjourned the Assembly’s question hour session until 11:30 AM.
Meanwhile, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members alleged that they were being neglected in the House and staged a walkout.
The BJD members stormed into the well of the House, shouting slogans and waving their arms, to express their discontent.
They argued that, despite being the Opposition in the Assembly, they were not given enough opportunity to voice their concerns and participate in discussions.
