New Delhi, Jan 06: Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress party on Monday unveiled its "Pyari Didi" scheme, promising Rs 2,500 per month for every woman in the National Capital.
Addressing a press conference after the launch, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “Following the successful implementation of the guarantee program in Karnataka, we are now bringing the Pyari Didi scheme to Delhi.”
He expressed confidence that the Congress would form the government in Delhi and assured that the Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women would be implemented on the very first day.
"Like the Karnataka model, the guarantee will also be introduced in Delhi," he added.
Shivakumar further emphasized that the first cabinet decision of a Congress-led government in Delhi would be to roll out the Pyari Didi scheme.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav took a dig at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, calling him an "impersonator" and accusing him of failing on several fronts over the past 11 years, including in education, free electricity and water, and the fight against corruption.
Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba expressed gratitude to the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) for launching the Pyari Didi scheme, noting that it would significantly empower the women of Delhi.
