Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: All schools and Anganwadi centers in five districts will remain closed on Saturday. This directive was issued by the district collector on Friday.
The affected districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar. Many schools in these areas have been serving as shelter homes for evacuees, prompting the decision to declare a holiday for students.
Earlier, the state government had announced the closure of schools for three days, from October 23 to 25, across 14 districts due to Cyclone Dana.
Meanwhile, the deep depression that is the remnant of the severe cyclonic storm “Dana” over northern Odisha has remained nearly stationary for the past six hours, weakening into a depression. As of 11:30 pm IST on October 25, it was centered near latitude 21.4°N and longitude 86.2°E, approximately 50 km northwest of Bhadrak and 70 km east-southeast of Keonjhar.
The system is expected to move westward across northern Odisha and gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is continuously monitoring the system using Doppler weather radar at Paradip.
