Cyclone Dana: NDRF Teams from Bathinda reaches Odisha to assist with Cyclone preparedness

In response to the impending Cyclone Dana, five teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from in Bathinda, Punjab, have arrived in Odisha to assist local disaster response teams.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: In response to the impending Cyclone Dana, five teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from in Bathinda, Punjab, have arrived in Odisha to assist local disaster response teams.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Tuesday evening and is forecasted to become a severe cyclonic storm. It is expected to make landfall on the Odisha-West Bengal coasts in the early hours of October 25, with wind speeds ranging from 100 to 110 mph, gusting up to 120 mph.

The system is predicted to take a northwesterly path until it crosses the coast late on the night of October 24. Wind speeds could reach 120 km/h in the sea by the afternoon of October 24, but are anticipated to decrease to between 85 and 110 km/h along the Odisha coast during landfall.

In Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, wind speeds are expected to range from 55 to 70 km/h on the night of October 24, while Berhampur may experience winds of 45 to 55 km/h on October 25, continuing into the evening.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is projected to begin in the afternoon of October 24 across several districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Nayagarh, and Ganjam, lasting until the afternoon of October 25. After making landfall, the system is likely to weaken but will move in a south-southwesterly direction towards Koraput district, bringing additional rainfall to southern Odisha until October 26.

Authorities are urging residents in affected areas to take precautions and prepare for potential disruptions.
