Cyclone Dana: Schools to remain closed for 3 days in several districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar, October 21: In anticipation of Cyclone Dana, the Odisha government has ordered the closure of schools across 14 districts from October 23 to 25.

 This decision, announced today, comes as a precautionary measure against the impending cyclonic storm forming over the Bay of Bengal.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Deoranjan Kumar Singh communicated the order to the School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department’s Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Shalini Pandit.

The districts where schools will remain closed include Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Angul, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Cuttack.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal early on October 25. 

The storm is predicted to hit with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph. 

Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are expected to affect the aforementioned districts.
