Along with Gupta who will succeed AAP leader Atishi, several other cabinet ministers including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh are also scheduled to take the oath.
Gupta becoming the fourth woman Delhi’s Chief Minister, upholds a tradition that has been challenging for other regions of the country to replicate. Delhi has seen women Chief Ministers from the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party. She is set to succeed Atishi.
Rekha Gupta, elected MLA from the Shalimar Bagh seat, has previously served as the general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of its national executive committee. During her tenure, she led several campaigns aimed at improving the welfare of marginalized communities and women.
Rekha Gupta expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party leadership for placing their trust in her, stating, "I will live up to his expectations." She added, "PM Modi has shown great faith in an ordinary party worker and daughter like me. I am deeply thankful to him and the party leadership for entrusting me with such a significant responsibility. My journey can serve as an inspiration to every woman, proving that a common middle-class woman can also be given the opportunity to rise to the highest levels of leadership in the party."
It is worth mentioning that the saffron party ended AAP’s decade-long dominance by securing 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly and returning to power in the National Capital after 27 years. While the AAP bagged 22 seats, Congress was unable to secure one seat.
