New Delhi, Mar 25: In a historic moment after over 26 years, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is set to present the first budget of the newly elected BJP government in the Assembly today.
The budget for the financial year 2025-26 is expected to include the BJP’s election promises made to the people of Delhi during the recent elections.
CM Gupta said, “Just as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, we are coming back after 27 years. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget for the first time in 27 years.”
As per reports, the five-day budget session of Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday (March 24) with a kheer ceremony at 11 a.m.
CM Gupta tabled a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report covering the period up to 2024 in the House on the first day of the session.
The report highlighted the poor financial condition of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) revealing that DTC’s losses have swollen by Rs 35,000 crore over the past six years.
As per the report, DTC’s losses soared from Rs 25,300 crore in 2015-16 to a massive Rs 60,750 crore in 2021-22.
This sharp increase in losses has sparked criticism from the opposition, leading to a walkout. They also demanded that all 14 CAG reports be presented together in the House.
Notably, the current budget session will be the second for the newly-formed BJP government. The first session was held between February 24 and March 3.
