New Delhi, January 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump on Monday, congratulating him on his second term in office and reaffirming the strong partnership between India and the United States.
Describing President Trump as "my dear friend," PM Modi expressed his optimism about the future of India-US relations, emphasizing their shared commitment to global peace, prosperity, and security.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, "Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump @POTUS. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. Together, we will work for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security."
This marks the first conversation between the two leaders since Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Before the inauguration, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the event as PM Modi’s Special Envoy and delivered a letter from the Prime Minister to President Trump.
Following Trump’s swearing-in, PM Modi had already extended his best wishes to the US leader on his new term.
