New Delhi, March 26: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has accused Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla of preventing him from speaking in Parliament. Gandhi, who is also the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleged that the parliamentary proceedings were being conducted in an "undemocratic manner," with his repeated requests to raise important issues being ignored.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Gandhi expressed his frustration, stating, "I don't know what is going on... I requested him (the Speaker) to let me speak, but he just walked away and didn’t allow me to speak. This is no way to run the House."
Gandhi further clarified that he had intended to discuss important matters such as the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela and the rising unemployment issue but was continuously interrupted. "I didn’t do anything. I was quietly sitting, but every time I stood up, I was stopped from speaking. This is not a place for democracy," he added.
In response, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged Gandhi to adhere to the established rules and procedures that are designed to maintain the dignity of the House. However, the specific reason for Birla’s comment was not immediately clear.
