Surat, March 29: A court in Surat has registered a criminal case against four police officers after initiating a suo motu inquiry into allegations of torture against three robbery suspects in their custody. The suspects were reportedly tortured with petrol and chili powder injected into their private parts, along with physical assaults.

The 5th Additional Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Shraddha N. Falki, issued the order on March 26 to register the case and summon the accused officers. The decision followed a suo motu criminal inquiry, based on the testimonies of the three victims.

The court reviewed the statements of the accused, medical reports, and other relevant documents before proceeding with the case.
