Durga Puja in 2024:

According to the Hindu calendar, Durga Puja is celebrated from the first day (Pratipada) to the tenth day (Shukla Dashami) of the Ashwin month. This usually falls between September and October. In 2024, Mahalaya is on 2nd October, and Durga Puja will begin on 9th October, concluding on 12th October 2024. The dates from Shashthi (sixth day) to Dashami (tenth day) hold special importance during this festival.

Mahalaya 2024

Mahalaya is believed to be the day when Goddess Durga descends to Earth. It also marks the end of the 15-day Pitru Paksha (period dedicated to ancestors). In 2024, Mahalaya will be observed on 2nd October, the last day of Pitru Paksha. This day is also known as Sarva Pitru Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya.
