Khordha, Apr 17: In a significant milestone in railway infrastructure, the Indian Railways successfully completed a 4,185-metre-long tunnel project under the Khurda Road–Balangir new rail line project in Odisha.
The tunnel successfully achieved its breakthrough (daylighting) and is now recognized as the longest railway tunnel in Odisha.
As per reports, the breakthrough of the tunnel, which is located between Adenigarh and Charichhak stations in Boudh district, was completed using advanced technology and modern construction methods.
The entire Khurda Road–Balangir railway project spans 301 kilometers and involves complex engineering and logistical challenges, especially while constructing tunnels through the difficult terrain of the Eastern Ghats.
Within a 75 km stretch of the project, there are seven tunnels. Most of them are located between Dasapalla and Purunakatak. These tunnels pass through one of the most challenging sections of the project.
So far, 226 kilometers of the project have been completed—from Khurda Road to Dasapalla on one side and Balangir to Purunakatak on the other. The remaining 75 kilometers, which includes all seven tunnels, is still under construction.
The success of Tunnel T-4’s breakthrough is expected to accelerate the progress of the remaining works. It will also help strengthen the connection between Odisha’s coastal and western regions and is expected to boost both transportation and economic opportunities in the area.
