Bhubaneswar, November 28: Ektaa R Kapoor, the producer of the Hindi film The Sabarmati Report, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the state government for making the film tax-free in the state.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ektaa Kapoor wrote, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Ji and the Government of Odisha for making The Sabarmati Report tax-free in the state. This support will help bring the truth of a significant chapter in our history to more people.”
On Thursday, the Odisha government officially announced that The Sabarmati Report, a film based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, would be exempt from entertainment tax in the state. The decision was made public by Odisha Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling during the Assembly session.
In a separate post on X, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi also shared his thoughts, stating, “The people’s government of Odisha has decided to make the film The Sabarmati Report tax-free. The film portrays the tragic incident of the burning of Karsevaks in the Godhra fire, which was aimed at fulfilling certain vested interests and creating unrest. This film will reveal the heart-wrenching truth from our past and raise awareness among the public.”
With this decision, Odisha becomes the seventh BJP-ruled state to declare The Sabarmati Report tax-free, following Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film is produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan. The Sabarmati Report stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in key roles, and it delves into the controversial events surrounding the 2002 Godhra incident.
