Elephant tramples elderly man to death in Odisha’s Angul

Angul, April 17: An elderly man was died after being trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kanja village under Bantala forest range in Odisha’s angul district on Thursday.

The decesed man has been identified as Somnath Behera, a resident of the same village. 

According to the report, Behera was heading to the mango orchard near his house when the elephant attacked him killed on the spot. 

Being informed, forest officials and local police reached the spot, seized the bosy and started investogation into the incident. 

Yesterday on April 16, a woman trampled to death and another woman critically injured in elephant attack in Turcha village under Gaisilet police limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district.

On April 11, a woman died after being attacked by an elephant in Odisha’s Khordha.  The incident occurred while the woman identified as Basanti Routray had gone to the backyard of her house to collect cashew nuts.

On March 29, a man identified as Dhabal Nayak of Budhakhaman in Deogarh was trampled to death by an elephant. The incident occurred while Dhabak had gone to the nearby forest to collect Mahua flowers in the morning. When he did not return home by noon, his family members got worried and searched for him. During the search, they found his body in the forest.

On March 18, a woman was killed while her husband and children suffered injuries after being attacked by an elephant at Tileipasi village under Kundeigola forest section of Reamal range in the district.

The Odisha government recently revealed that as many as 1,209 people were killed due to elephant attacks between 2014-15 and 2024-25 in the state.
