Bhubaneswar: Fakir Majhi a student of KIIT University clinched the coveted Category-B title at the Odisha Open the 15th International GrandMaster Chess Tournament at SOA University here on Wednesday.
Demonstrating exceptional strategic brilliance, Fakir scored an outstanding 8.5 points out of a possible 10 rounds, dominating the competition and securing a well-deserved victory. Undefeated Fakir registered seven wins and three draws.
Omkar Kadev of Maharashtra and Sabat Shrihan of Odisha gathered eight points each and finished second and third respectively.
The tournament showcased intense rivalry among participants, but Fakir’s consistency and composure set him apart, earning him accolades from the chess community and bringing immense pride to the KIIT fraternity.
Altogether 185 players from across the country participated in the 10 rounds Category-B events, which began on 15 December.
