Dhenkanal, Feb 23: In a gruesome incident, miscreants allegedly shot dead a farmer in Sadar police station area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Chandra Nayak and the incident has been reported from Phasigaan under Sadar police limits.
As per reports, Nayak was asleep at his farmhouse when the assailants barged into it at around 3-4 AM and opened fire at him before fleeing the spot.
Nayak’s elder brother, who was also present at the farmhouse, rushed to the scene upon hearing gunfire and found Nayak’s lying in a pool of blood. Thereafter, he informed Nayak’s wife and other family members.
They rushed him to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the attending doctors declared him brought dead.
Upon getting the information, Dhenkanal Sadar police arrived at the spot in the morning and launched a probe into the matter. The cops also seized the victim’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
The exact motive behind the gruesome killing is yet to be ascertained.
