Bhubaneswar: The year 2024 has been on its last legs. The weather in the least week of year 2024 will be rainy all the way, suggest model forecasts.
While the low pressure triggered rainfall over south and coastal Odisha will be continuing for the next 12-24 hours, the model forecast shows clear sky prevailing from Dec 26/27 onwards.
However, nights to be misty in Odisha for the next 72 hours, ECMWF model forecast predicts foggy night on December 30 and on Dec 31 (zero night day).
The New Year 2025 will usher into Odisha amidst foggy weather in as many as 10 districts. The foggy entry of New Year 2025 is predicted for the following districts.
- Koraput
- Rayagada
- Gajapati
- Ganjam
- Puri
- Nayagarh
- Khordha, including Bhubaneswar.
- Cuttack
- Jajpur
- Dhenkanal
FOGGY New Year 2025 is also predicted in following states. View the image of ECMWF forecast that shows poor visibility (less than 1km) in Andhra Pradesh and coastal and south Odisha.
- Whole of Andhra Pradesh
- Some places in Madhya Pradesh
Though, in the last week of Year 2024, dense fog is predicted in the following states.
- December 26: moderate to dense fog predicted over UP, Bihar
- Shallow fog in rest of north India.
- Following an active western disturbance led rain coming into play over Delhi, western UP and Madhya Pradesh ( with rainfall in the range of 2-6 cm) from Dec 27, 28, following is the forecast by NCMRWF on fog.
- December 27: Shallow to moderate fog in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
- December 28: Dense fog at some isolated places in east Rajasthan, Shallow to moderate fog over Uttar Pradesh (east), Bihar and West Bengal.
RAINY NEW YEAR IN TAMIL NADU
A look at the model forecasts show owing to strong moist laden easterlies blowing south Bay of Bengal, the state of Tamil Nadu may record a rainy New Year 2025.
As per NCMRWF and IMD model forecast, while south Tamil Nadu may record heavy rainfall in the range of 4-8cm on Jan 1, 2025, northern parts of the State, including Chennai are predicted to record around 2cm rainfall.
The model forecasts suggest no rainy New Year day for the rest of India, though a western disturbance may hit the north India by Jan 4/5.
Cold wave will be enveloping the whole of north India on New Year Day onwards with minimum temperature predicted to remain between 4-10 deg C
Following States are predicted to record 4 deg C temp on New Year Day.
- Madhya Pradesh
- Rajasthan
- Punjab
The states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Bihar and Delhi will see minimum temperature dipping below 10 deg C to hover around 8 deg C.
ODISHA WEATHER
The north India cold wave will engulf the State of Odisha from Jan 2 onwards. The minimum temperature, as per NCMRWF model, is predicted to dip to around 12 deg C. Model forecasts show by January 4, 2025, the minimum temperature the whole of western Odisha will be dipping between 8-10 deg C, while coastal Odisha will see minimum temperature in the range of 13-14 deg C.
Cold wave in Odisha will prevail over western, southern and central Odisha in the New Year. And cold conditions will grip the rest of the State, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
