New Delhi, March 23: Justice BR Gavai, who led a delegation of Supreme Court judges to Manipur, expressed optimism that a solution to the ongoing ethnic violence in the state will be reached soon. The violence, which has lasted for nearly two years, has displaced many people, with many now residing in relief camps. During his visit, Justice Gavai shared that the displaced people are in a positive mood and eager to return to normalcy.
"I spoke to both groups, and I’m hopeful that a solution will emerge very soon," Justice Gavai said. He also mentioned that the people in the relief camps are focused on peace and stability.
The Supreme Court judges' delegation, which arrived in Imphal on Saturday, attended the duodecennial celebrations in Imphal on Sunday. Justice Gavai inaugurated several judicial buildings, including the Secretariat of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, and engaged with local officials.
In his capacity as Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Justice Gavai launched legal aid and medical camps across Manipur, aiming to improve access to justice and healthcare for the affected communities. "We stand with you," he said, emphasizing the collective responsibility to address the crisis.
Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The violence erupted on May 3, 2023, after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM), and continues to affect the region despite efforts to restore order. (With ANI Input)
