New Delhi, April 26: After a five-year pause, India on Saturday announced the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, scheduled to take place from June to August 2025.
The pilgrimage, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is seen as a step toward improving bilateral relations with China, following the completion of troop disengagement at the remaining friction points in Demchok and Depsang under an agreement reached in October last year.
"The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, will be held from June to August 2025," an official statement confirmed.
The Yatra, which has been suspended since 2020, will now resume with two routes. Five batches of 50 pilgrims each will travel via Uttarakhand through the Lipulekh Pass, while 10 batches of 50 pilgrims each will proceed via Sikkim through the Nathu La Pass.
Applications for the Yatra can be submitted online at kmy.gov.in. The MEA noted that selection will be made through a fair, computer-generated process that ensures gender balance among participants.
