Noor & Ravindra Lead CSK to Victory Over Mumbai Indians
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their IPL 2025 campaign with a convincing win over the Mumbai Indians, proving that their off-season investments were money well spent. CSK's new bowling recruits were the stars of the show, restricting Mumbai to a below-par total, which CSK then chased down, albeit with a slight wobble thanks to a spirited debut performance from a young Mumbai spinner.
CSK's New Bowling Attack:
CSK's strategy of bolstering their bowling attack during the off-season paid immediate dividends. Their four new bowlers shared nine wickets amongst themselves, completely dismantling the Mumbai Indians' batting lineup. The standout performer was young Afghan left-arm wristspinner Noor Ahmad, who registered his best-ever IPL figures and the best figures for a CSK spinner against MI: a superb 4 for 18. Khaleel Ahmed, on his CSK debut, also impressed, taking three crucial wickets, including both Mumbai openers. This restricted MI to just 155 for 9. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, led a comfortable chase initially. Scoring 53 of just 26 balls.
Puthur's Debut Provides a Scare
Chasing 156 should have been a cruise for CSK, especially after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's rapid start. However, Mumbai Indians' debutant, left-arm wristspinner Vignesh Puthur, who is yet to even play senior-level cricket for his state side, injected some late drama. Puthur's slow, deceptive spin caused problems, claiming three quick wickets as CSK batters struggled to generate power.
Ravindra Anchors the Chase
Despite the mini-collapse triggered by Puthur, Rachin Ravindra played a crucial, mature innings. He anchored the chase with a well-compiled 65 off 45 balls, ensuring CSK reached the target with four wickets and overs to spare. CSK legend, Piyush Chawala was all praise for Noor after the match, calling him "spot on" with his line and length. It was an excellent start of the season for CSK, with the new signings fitting in perfectly.
