Mumbai, April 2: Jio was the fastest mobile provider in India during 2nd half of 2024 (2H 2024), spanning from July to December 2024, across all technologies combined, and specifically for 5G, revealed the latest report published by Ookla.
It recorded a median 5G download speed of 258.54 Mbps, and an upload speed of 14.54 Mbps, said Ookla. Jio was the fastest 5G provider in India during this period, based on Speedtest Intelligence® data, with a Speed Score of 213.27. Jio led on median 5G download speed, recording 258.54 Mbps, ahead of next placed Airtel, which recorded 205.1 Mbps. Jio recorded a median 5G upload speed of 14.54 Mbps, and a latency over 5G of 55 ms.
Jio also recorded the highest 5G Availability in India during this period, based on Speedtest Intelligence® data, with 73.7% of its users accessing its 5G network a majority of the time. Jio’s mobile network extended farthest within the market, with a Coverage Score of 65.66 during the second half of 2024. Airtel followed with a score of 58.17.
As per the report, Jio was also the best mobile network in India during 2H 2024, after leading for both fastest mobile network and best mobile coverage. Jio was the fastest mobile provider in India during this period, based on Speedtest Intelligence® data for all technologies combined, with a Speed Score of 174.89. Jio led on median download speed, recording 158.63 Mbps, ahead of next placed Airtel, which recorded 100.67 Mbps, and Vi India with 21.60 Mbps. Jio recorded a median upload speed of 8.93 Mbps, and a latency of 62 ms.
Jio was also the fastest provider across nine major cities in the country. Jaipur had the fastest median mobile download speed among India’s most populous cities, recording 181.68 Mbps. Kolkata was second, followed by Ahmedabad in third. At the other end of the scale, Mumbai had the slowest median mobile download speed at 75.75 Mbps, followed by Pune and Chennai.
