Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Odisha is set to inspire a new generation of scientists as the state announces plans to establish a planetarium and an astrophysics and astronomy institute in Khandapada.
The initiative, aimed at fostering scientific excellence among students, was highlighted by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the 18th Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS) grand finale at the Pathani Samanta Planetarium.
While congratulating the 30 YATS 2024 winners, who will embark on an educational tour to ISRO, CM Majhi stressed the importance of nurturing a scientific mindset in school students.
He urged them to aspire for future space missions and contribute to India’s growing space exploration achievements, such as the successful landing on the Moon’s south pole and plans for a space station by 2035.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Indian scientists would soon make breakthroughs in exploring life beyond Earth.
Meanwhile, Odisha's Science and Technology Minister, Krushna Chandra Patra, revealed the establishment of the planetarium and the specialized institute in Khandapada, a move that pays tribute to the legacy of renowned astronomer Pathani Samanta.
This project aims to create a hub of astronomical learning and discovery, offering young students in Odisha the opportunity to engage with space science and ignite their curiosity about the cosmos. The upcoming facilities will provide hands-on learning experiences, preparing students for exciting careers in space science and technology.
